Happy Endings
December 4, 2004: Buffy
Our beautiful Buffy is healthy and cancer free!! She is very happy and doing very well. We have completed our Obedience Classes and she has been certified as a Visiting Therapy Dog. We will be going to nursing home, Rehab centers at the 2 hospitals here in Cape, Senior Citizen centers, and maybe even schools!
We went way beyond Sit, Down Stay -- she does weave poles. runs tunnels, jumps through hula hoops, walks the plank, High five, rolls over, and Stands on her back feet. and much more!! It is quite a show!!! We have already done our first big show then visited with the residents at the assisted living center where my Mom lives in Metropolis, Illinois. Buffy was Awesome!! They people love her and have asked us to come back over and do a Christmas show!!She seems to really enjoy all of it and she learns so fast. She is a very smart little girl. I have bought 4 new trick books just to keep up with her!!! You know. some times I look at her and I still can't believe she's really mine!! She has truly bless my life in so many ways. Thanks you again for taking the chance and saving her life. What a terrible loss that would have been!!!~ God Bless you, Kris
November 7, 2004: LuLu
Lulu is fabulous, we love her soooo much and she and Coti are best friends. What a precious little girl - of course we're spoiling her like crazy. Not only does she sleep in the bed, but she's adopted a cute habit of sleeping UNDER the covers! It's really funny. She gets regular baths so it's sanitary ;)
We love taking her to the park and watching her play with the other dogs, she's always the most popular dog there and everyone ooo's and ahhh's over how cute she is. She's so fast and quick, none of the bigger dogs can catch her, I guess she learned a lot from your other dogs. She and Coti keep each other entertained all day, they play tug-a-war with the rope toys and wrestle all the time, it's super cute. When they're tired, you will often see them curled up together in bed.Last weekend we were out of town for a wedding, our friends kept both dogs for us while we were gone. The ONLY accident was when Lulu decided to chew up her cloth/foam bed that we picked up at target. She completely shredded it, what a site. She had a few accidents in the house the first couple of weeks, but now she's totally housebroken. We feel she's made the adjustment really well.Lulu has free reign of the house and has not abused that once, no shoes or valuables have been
touched, she's truly a wonderful little girl.
In our house you will frequently hear one of us calling, "Lulu" or "Louie Louie" or sometimes "Lou, yo Lou, where are you?" And she comes running round the corner to meet us.That's about it! Anna's mom has already given approval for Lulu and Coti to come to Florida for the wedding, so we're making arrangements and cannot wait for them to be in the wedding.~ Tommy, Anna, Coti and little Lulu!
October 23, 2004: Oreo
On 23 October 2004 I adopted Oreo, a black and white, long haired kitten with three legs. He is doing well and loves his new home. Oreo is a pleasure to have in our home and keeps us entertained. We bought him toys the day we adopted him, but he prefers home-made toys, like straws, milk jug rings and things like that. Everyone loves Oreo. My husband calls him “South Paw” for obvious reasons.
Thank you for all you do for the pets of the world! ~ Laura
October 17, 2004: Babbs
Babbs is doing great! Our family would not be complete without her. She loves to give the kids lots of wet kisses. She has her own pillow on the front porch and her own special spot in the house. She doesn't like thunder and lightning very much. Thanks for making it possible to enjoy such a wonderful sweet spirit in our family! ~ Thanks Brittani
October 6,2004: Bo
Photo not available...
Coming Soon!We just wanted to update you on Bo, the little puppy-mill Chihuahua. We put in a pet door in July this year and Bo uses it all day long. He hasn't used the bathroom in the house forever. He's doing wonderful and gives me kisses. Still timid around other people, especially those who try to touch him, but he does come out when I have people over and when we go to my sister's house in Kentucky, he lets my brother-in-law and my niece (who wants to be a vet) pick him up! He still doesn't like my 15 year old, but that's okay, they co-exist peacefully. He plays with my 6 month old Yorkie and Javier's 9 month old Chihuahua (both males) all the time. You would never believe he's as old as he is.
I'm so proud of him and thank God and you every day that this little man is in my life. He truly makes me happy and brings me so much joy that my stress level goes down just to hold him.Thank you so much and keep up the wonderful work you do. God Bless You.
~ Becky
August 13, 2004 - Bosco (Bumper)
I just wanted to give you an update on Bosco. He and Oscar are adjusting very well. We could not ask for a better tempered and lovable dog than Bosco. It is as if he has been with us from the beginning. He has nothing but love to give (and demand).
Yes, it is interesting when you are fast asleep and then have a 124 pound dog laying on top of you (lol).
His coat is starting to come back in and he is just handsome! Everyone is doing well; we have even caught him and Oscar playing together!
Thank you again for our addition. He is loved very much!
Thanks again and God Bless,
~ Kim
August 12, 2004 - Jackie (Bo)
We adopted a little Shi Tzu/Poodle mix (Shitzadoodle) named Bo from you April 5th 2003. We brought our aging Schnauzer along to assist with the selection, and she picked him, much to our surprise.
Bo is now Jackie Chan (long story). Jackie loves everybody, and if they will hold still and let him "wash" them, he loves them even more. He helped "raise" two rescue kittens. Jackie never got any bigger. He still weighs in just over 10 lbs. Those kittens have now passed him by in size, but still look to him for cuddling and comfort if we aren't available. Jackie is always ready to wash some ears and snuggle into the pillows with his boys.
I just wanted you to know that Jackie joined our family right as my youngest son was sent to Iraq. The stress and the fear I went through came close to sending me into a nervous break own. That 10 lb fur-ball would not let me check out of reality. If it were not for him, I don't know where I'd be today--rubber room, perhaps. Son is home now, physically intact, and my participation in life is improving.
Jackie, who sleeps tucked into my right armpit, is in his forever home, and we are doing our best to help him get past whatever happened to him in his past life. There are still many shadows of fear and pain in that little dog, but his eyes aren't as shadowed anymore, and his magnificent tail stays in the upright happy waving pennant position pretty much all of the time now.
In the winter, he maintains the shitzu look, but with the heat of summer, he gets a schnauzer cut--it's the only doggy haircut I know how to do. He didn't like that experience much, at first, either. Patience, and moving slow around him has him at least tolerating his "spa days". He is groomed at home to avoid any inadvertent trauma from someone who doesn't know his history.
Thank you for this wonderful companion. We are doing our best to honor his indomitable spirit by encouraging and reassuring him every chance we get.
I have never had an animal that wants to wear clothing before. It started when we had to put a light sweater on him after he was groomed the first time because he shivered in the AC. He started begging for the sweater. Now he has his own wardrobe.
His all time favorite toy is a stuffed pink bunny. We had actually come to your facility to look at a young female, and I'd already gotten the pink toy with her in mind. When Kasey chose Jackie (Bo) for us, he was given that silly pink bunny the day he came home. He gets frantic if he can't find it when we have to sneak it away from him to wash it.
Again, trying to put our gratitude for him in our lives into words, seems inadequate, but this Thank You comes from the heart and soul.
~ Maureen

April 6, 2004 - Spot, aka Destiny
Spot, aka Destiny, a stray Dalmatian has been returned to her owners after being missing for over 4 months. This past weekend her picture ran in the Leaf-Chronicle, a local paper, as the pet of the week for St Francis Animal Rescue in Erin, TN. Her owner saw the picture, and knew right away it was her beloved lost pet.
Some very sad circumstances took the owners away from home on the Nov. 22, 2003, for a few hours, and they felt she would be okay in their yard on a tie out while they were gone. When they came back, they found her collar chewed up and laying on the ground, but Destiny, and her two pups, were nowhere to be found. They searched and searched to no avail. As the months went by, her family missed her terribly, not knowing what had happened to her.
This past weekend they saw her picture in the paper. After they called St Francis Animal Rescue and talked to Annamaria McCoy on the phone, she went out and called Spot by her real name, Destiny. Never before has Annamaria seen a happier dog! Annamaria said, "I'm happy for her, and for the owners, because I know they really missed her, and were overjoyed to have found her."
Annamaria continued with, "Unfortunately, there's too many people out there that don't care for their animals, and that are even glad to 'lose' them, but for those who do care, I'm happy to know that, thanks to a handful of very caring volunteers, Destiny was rescued by us and now has been reunited with those who love her!"
November 22, 2003 - Sophie
I just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know that Sophie is doing great. She has become an amazing addition to our family. She is the biggest lovebug you could ever imagine. She is incredibly smart and really funny too. She has tons of personality and keeps us on our toes. She has also turned out to be an incredible watchdog and is fiercely protective. The other day a salesmen tried to push his way into the house and Sophie was across the room in a shot, teeth barred, hair up and growling. Needless to say the man beat a quick retreat. We were also confronted by an aggressive dog while out walking and Sophie immediately put herself between the dog and my daughter in her stroller and went on the defensive. We can't imagine our life without her and have just fallen in love with her. Even my husband adores her and that's saying a lot. Thank you again for letting her be a part of our lives.
Thanks again,
~ Laurie
September 24, 2003 - Picador
Just thought I'd let you know that Picador is doing great. She is such a sweetie, and never has chewed anything, other than her chewies and toys. She thinks she is one of us, and kills herself trying to get up on my four-poster bed every night. She refuses to sleep by herself!! She is also completely housetrained too. She is just a joy to have. Thank you for saving her. We really love her. We may be getting her a "friend" soon.,
Thank you again,
~ Rhoni

April 2003 - Jetta
Hi! This is Adriana, My fiancé and I adopted Jetta, and I just wanted to let you know she has been an angel!!!! We really couldn't have picked a better dog. From the moment she walked in she ate and drank very well. She has NEVER gone to the bathroom in the house! She is really starting to get used to it here. She has been sleeping on her bed and when we leave the house. We let her roam around freely and she just goes to bed. One thing is she is NOT is a barker. She has only barked once. We took her to the vet today and got her heartworm medicine for her. They said she is a very healthy girl. So, I just wanted you to know she is doing great. We LOVE her already, and she is the best dog.
Thank, again!!!
~ Adriana
June 2003 - Nosey, aka Jack or Jackson
Annamaria, several month ago I adopted one of your dogs, Nosey, an American Staffordshire Terrier. Just to let you know, he is doing fine. It seems to my husband and I as if he's been with our family for a much longer time than he really has. We changed his name to Jack, Jackson if he is being stubborn....:)~ He's made our house his own from day one, we also have two cats and the three of them get along perfectly, even sharing their food...:) We just recently returned from a Florida vacation so I thought I'd let you see some pictures of my baby! Thank you for letting me take Jack home, he's made our lives much more interesting and he is an all around awesome dog!!

July 2004:
We've been living in Germany now since February, in Bavaria to be exact. We currently live in on-post housing were Jack has lots of doggy friends and has yet to meet a dog he does not like. Jackson is loving it here. Even though we live in housing, there's a huge wooded area right outside our apartment which is a dog walk area. He has lots of doggy friends and lots of room to play. His best friend is a 12 pound little furball who belongs to one of our neighbors and the 2 of them spend most of their time together since his doggie friend stays with us a lot when the owners have to deploy. As you can tell by the pictures, Jack's becoming more handsome as time goes by. We'll keep you up to date on his European adventures.

Jack as a pampered pet in Germany
April 10, 2004: Frosty and Stephanie joined a family already enriched by adopting through SFAR.
Thank you for the info about Frosty and Stephanie. Bo and I were very sad about both Frosty and Stephanie being treated the way that they were treated.
Frosty
Whitey
StephanieBo thinks that Stephanie is part shepherd and part lab because she has the knot on the back of her head just like the labs has. She is huge, bigger than Whitey. She sure watches Bo I guess she will until she gets used to him. That is why we think that a man was mean to her and she remembers that. She is doing better with Bo as she gets used to him. Bo thinks that Stephanie is a beautiful dog and she is a good girl we love her very much. Of course we love Whitey and Frosty to.
Bo thinks that Frosty she is a little spitfire and loves her too. She let out a big burp yesterday and sure surprised Bo. But I had told him she did that.
Rest assured that all 3 of them are loved and taken very good care of. They have no ideal of what a hard life is now; we treat them very well. It sure is hard not to be good to them we love them very very much.
~ Teresa and Bo
June 2003 - Whitey & Hanna
Hello just wanted to let you know that Whitey and Hannah are doing fine; they are a little spoiled I think but they know that they are loved. Whitey is so gentle and Hannah is getting out of her puppy stage but still has a little more to go she will be fine. Whitey just loves her and she him I don't know what they would do without each other. They still get Milkbone treats which they love and are eating well. Well just thought I would keep you up on how they are doing take care.

September 7, 2003 - Spanky
It was a year ago today that we made the trip (of about 400 miles) to Clarksville to get Spanky. I don't think I've ever wanted anything more than I wanted Spanky! I was still hurting terribly from losing my beloved Peppi on August 17, 2002. He was another large Maltese, almost exactly the same size as Spanky, and the victim of a dog attack. I felt then that Spanky was meant just for me--400 miles away. I still do! The day I got Spanky and held him was one of the best days of my life!

Lady Titan
Lady Titan is a Great Pyrenees that came to St Francis Animal Rescue after the death of Jackie Slayman in August of 2001. Jackie was a friend and rescue associate. Lady Titan went to a wonderful home where she is loved as any dog should be. It gives me great pleasure to get updates from Lady Titan's family. It warms my heart that not only is she in a wonderful home, as all pets should, but that I could help with the re-homing of one of Jackie's loved rescues.
