Adoption Process: In order to insure that each animal goes to the best possible environment suitable to his/her personality, all potential adopters must complete an Adoption Application which is screened by our Adoption Coordinator. Once the application is approved, a Home Visit to your residence may be scheduled. We do permit Out of State Adoptions, however, all adopters must travel to Tennessee to meet and pick up their new pet. An adoption agreement is signed by the adopter, and the appropriate Adoption Donation is remitted. We accept cash, check or money order. Cash or money orders are required for all out of state adoptions. 

Adoption Donations help us to defray the cost of vaccinations, rabies, de-worming, heartworm test & up-to-date on heartworm prevention (dogs) or feline Leukemia/AIDS exam (cats), and all animals are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Puppies or kittens too young to be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, must be spayed/neutered as soon as they turn 6 months of age without exception. We do follow-ups with the adopter's veterinarian.

Additional Requirements: All animals adopted from SFAR must: 1) be returned to us if for any reason you are no longer able or willing to keep the animal; 2) be kept on heartworm prevention year-round; and 3) be properly restrained in accordance with state & local laws. Proof that any of these requirements are not being met will result in the immediate removal of the animal from the home.

Mandatory Return Policy: While we always try to find the best suitable home for each dog, sometimes things just don't work out. If for ANY reason and at ANY time you are no longer able or willing to keep a SFAR animal, our Adoption Agreement requires that SFAR be notified immediately so the animal can be brought back into SFAR's custody. In cases where the animal is returned within return within 48 hours the entire adoption donation may be refunded.
